The entrepreneur's blogging dilemma

Why do so few entrepreneurs have a personal blog or substantial activity in social media? The first thing that comes to mind is time. If you are building a company you don't have much time for other things than actually building your company. But I don't think this is the most important factor.

When I blog I want it to be truthful. I want to reveal reality as it is. I want to show people my reality so that they can learn from it, and maybe even be inspired.

The problem is that when you are a startup founder, most of the things you deal with on a daily basis are confidential. Most of my work includes relations with other people. It could be managing conflicts inside the office, handling HR issues, drafting potential cooperations with business partners, working with the company's strategy going forward etc. None of this I can write openly about of respect to all the other people involved. What happens today I could maybe write about in a few years. But not today.

This is very frustrating for me, as I would like to be transparent with everything. There is too much facade and pretty painting going on in the startup world. And I hate that because it gives people an untruthful image of what your focus should be when trying to build a successful company.

What I however can blog about is everything related to my entrepreneurship on a more general level. I can also blog about philosophical things. And also what happened in our startup a couple of years ago and what I learned from it.

So that is what I will do.
